Federal workers received a financial boost this week as the Nigerian government disbursed the second tranche of the N35,000 wage award arrears.
The confirmation came from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), which reiterated the administration’s resolve to fulfill the five-month payment schedule.
According to a press release signed by Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, the latest payment is a continuation of the palliative agreement reached in 2023, following the removal of fuel subsidy and subsequent economic pressures on public workers.
“The Federal Government has paid the second tranche of the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears to federal government workers,” the OAGF stated.
So far, two of the five scheduled tranches have been disbursed, with three remaining.
The initial payment was made earlier in the year.
The OAGF emphasized that payments will continue monthly until the arrears are fully settled.
Addressing rising concerns and speculation that the program may have been stalled, the office was unequivocal: “Contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the Federal Government has not reneged on payment of the wage award arrears.”

The wage award was part of a broader relief package intended to ease the burden of inflation and rising living costs faced by civil servants nationwide. Each tranche amounts to N35,000 per worker per month.
The Office assured workers of the government’s commitment to completing the payments as promised. “The Federal Government will continue to pay the wage award in instalments of N35,000 per month until the outstanding arrears are exhausted,” the statement concluded.
This move comes amid ongoing economic reforms under the Tinubu administration, with federal agencies under pressure to maintain transparency and consistency in their fiscal responsibilities.
The first tranche, disbursed in May, marked the start of the government’s effort to deliver on its wage-related promises.
Workers and labor unions will be watching closely to ensure that the remaining tranches follow suit without further delay.
