The Nigerian government has officially commenced the disbursement of the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants, fulfilling a key promise made to workers in the public sector.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa.
According to the statement, many federal employees have already confirmed receiving the payment.
The wage award, aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship, will be paid in monthly installments of N35,000 over a five-month period.

Clarifying recent speculations, the OAGF emphasized that the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, did not make any statement suggesting that the wage award was excluded from the 2025 budget, which stands at N54.99 trillion.
“The office said the Accountant General of the Federation didn’t brief the press on the wage award issue and assured that outstanding arrears would be paid as promised by the government,” the statement read.
The development has brought relief to thousands of federal workers who have awaited the fulfillment of the government’s commitment amid rising inflation and cost of living.
