Bandits Attack Two Katsina Communities, Kill One, Steal Livestock

Armed bandits have attacked Madattai and Gaba-Lafiya communities in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving one person dead and making away with livestock.

The incident, which occurred last Tuesday, was revealed by Katsina-based security analyst Bakatsine in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night.

According to Bakatsine, the attack took place despite a peace deal reached in February between local authorities in Jibia LGA and the armed groups operating in the area.

He stated that military troops responded swiftly, pursuing the attackers and successfully recovering the stolen animals.

“Despite the February truce between bandits and Jibia LGA authorities, bandits attacked Madattai and Gaba-Lafiya communities in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, last Tuesday, killing one person and rustling livestock. Troops pursued the attackers and recovered the animals,” the analyst posted.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Katsina State, like several other states in Nigeria’s northwest, continues to grapple with violent attacks from armed gangs that engage in killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, despite ongoing security operations and periodic peace agreements.
