Ibom Air Passenger Walks Free as Airline Withdraws Complaint

The legal storm surrounding Comfort Emmanson, a passenger accused of unruly conduct aboard an Ibom Air flight, came to a quiet end on Wednesday when a Lagos court dismissed all charges against her.

Sitting at the Ikeja Magistrate Court in Ogba, Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the case after prosecutors confirmed that both the police and the airline had agreed to drop the matter.

The decision followed the formal withdrawal of five counts previously filed against Emmanson.

The turning point came after Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), intervened in the dispute.

According to Keyamo, the resolution was the product of consultations with key aviation stakeholders, appeals from respected figures, and acknowledgment of the remorse expressed by those involved.

Ibom Air, the complainant in the case, agreed to let the matter rest — effectively clearing the way for Emmanson’s release. She had been arrested over an incident that took place on August 10.

Emmanson’s legal troubles began on Monday when she was arraigned in court. Bail was set at ₦500,000 with two sureties in similar amounts, but she was remanded to Kirikiri Correctional Centre after being unable to meet the conditions.

At Wednesday’s resumed hearing, prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan formally applied to have the charges withdrawn, citing the new developments. The magistrate granted the request without objection.

While the court drama has ended, the August 10 flight incident remains under review by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority as part of its broader oversight on passenger and airline conduct.
