Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said that the death of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 marked a profound turning point in both his personal life and career.
Ifeanyi tragically drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s Banana Island home in Lagos in October that year.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, which began trending on Wednesday, Davido expressed pride in how he and his wife, Chioma, navigated the heartbreaking loss and found the strength to keep moving forward.
He said the tragedy reshaped his perspective on life, shifting his priorities and deepening his sense of purpose.
The Unavailable crooner added that their resilience has inspired many, recalling moments when strangers approached him in public to praise his courage during that dark chapter.

“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back on my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life.
“I know how many people randomly like in the airports will come to me like, ‘bro, you don’t know how your strength has gotten me through life.’ You know what I’m saying? But I’m just, me and my wife were talking the other day, I was like, I’m proud of us, man, you know what I’m saying? Like now we got twins, you know, they’re big, shouting everywhere, but like, you know what I’m saying? But for us to, you know, go through that and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge” Davido said.
Davido and his wife Chioma got married on Sunday in a lavish wedding in Maimi.
