The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested four individuals for unlawfully disposing of waste in unauthorized locations along the Akowonjo-Egbeda axis of Lagos State.
The arrests were made during an overnight surveillance operation by LAWMA’s Waste Infractions Surveillance Team on August 13, 2025, which lasted until the morning of August 14.
The suspects, identified as Edache Ngbede (male), Omanihu Miracle (female), Mrs. Sunday Oluwabunmi (female), and Okoro Joy (female), were apprehended for violating environmental regulations by dumping refuse in prohibited areas. They have since been transferred to LAWMA’s legal department for prosecution.

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests in a statement posted via his X handle on Thursday. He reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance policy for environmental infractions, warning that similar enforcement operations will continue across Lagos.
“Residents must understand that indiscriminate waste disposal will not be tolerated,” Wahab stated, urging citizens to embrace proper waste management practices to keep the city clean.
LAWMA also assured that it would sustain its surveillance and enforcement efforts to ensure full compliance with environmental laws.
