Uriel Slams Buchi Over Toke Makinwa Pregnancy Remarks in Viral Post

Reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Uriel Oputa, has publicly condemned comedian Buchi for his recent comments about media personality Toke Makinwa’s pregnancy. The controversy unfolded after Buchi implied that the only acceptable way to have a child is through marriage, a statement that many, including Uriel, found judgmental and insensitive.

In a strongly worded response shared via her Instagram, Uriel criticized Buchi’s stance, noting that such remarks are both out of touch and dismissive of the personal battles many women face when trying to conceive.

“With all due respect, Buchi, not everything requires you to set up a ring light and start talking. What doesn’t concern you, leave it,” read the post. She went on to highlight the struggles of women who have undergone multiple rounds of IVF, faced miscarriages, or encountered challenges with surrogacy—even within marriage.

Uriel emphasized that conception is deeply personal and complex, and not every woman’s journey can or should be boxed into societal norms. “If she chooses to glorify God and say, ‘Thank you, Jesus,’ that’s her right — because only she knows the battles she has fought privately,” she added, defending Makinwa’s right to express gratitude regardless of her marital status.

Further expressing her disappointment, Uriel questioned why a man would be so vocal on issues specifically tied to women’s reproductive experiences. “Do you even understand the trials and tribulations women go through? If not, respectfully, sit this one out,” she wrote.

In her caption accompanying the post, Uriel, who has a background in nursing, explained that her professional experience has exposed her to the pain many women endure while trying to conceive. She called out the culture of public shaming and judgment, particularly when directed at women navigating deeply personal health matters.

The exchange has since ignited discussions on social media, with many users rallying behind Uriel’s perspective and criticizing the tendency to judge women’s reproductive choices based on outdated societal standards.

Toke Makinwa, a prominent media figure, recently revealed her pregnancy to much public support and congratulations. However, the backlash from some quarters has reignited conversations about reproductive freedom, societal expectations, and gender roles in modern-day Nigeria.
