D’Tigers Fall to Senegal, Crash Out in Afrobasket Quarterfinals Again

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have once again stumbled at the quarterfinal stage of the FIBA Afrobasket Championship, falling 91–75 to Senegal in a highly anticipated clash.

The defeat marks the second consecutive tournament in which D’Tigers have failed to progress beyond the last eight, raising questions about the team’s consistency on the continental stage despite boasting a rich history and strong talent pool.

Senegal took control of the game early, establishing dominance with sharp shooting and disciplined defense that Nigeria struggled to counter.

While D’Tigers showed flashes of resilience, particularly in the third quarter, their efforts fell short as Senegal maintained composure and extended their lead in the final stretch.

Basketball analysts have described the result as a missed opportunity for Nigeria, who were once seen as perennial title contenders in African basketball.

The loss will no doubt spark debate about the team’s preparation, coaching strategy, and future direction.

Senegal, meanwhile, advance to the semifinals, solidifying their status as one of the continent’s powerhouses, while Nigeria is left to regroup and reflect on back-to-back quarterfinal exits.
