Police Nab Kano Thugs Over Viral Weapon Videos

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected thugs identified as Mohammed Isma’il, popularly called Linga, and his accomplice, Sani Abdulsalam, also known as Guchi, after videos of them wielding weapons circulated on social media.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended in Dala Quarters during an intelligence-led operation after they were found mobilising youths and instigating violence.

“During the arrest, a sword and two clubs were recovered from the suspects. They had been posting videos on TikTok and Facebook showing themselves brandishing dangerous weapons and threatening peace in their community,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who ordered the operation, cautioned that the command would deal decisively with individuals using social media to glorify thuggery.

“Anyone found posting videos of themselves with weapons or engaging in acts of violence will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Bakori warned.

The command urged parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and prevent them from getting involved in criminal activities. It also commended residents for providing intelligence that aided the operation.

“We appreciate the cooperation of the public in providing credible information. Citizens are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious activities through our emergency contacts,” the statement added.
