The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says recovery operations are in full swing following Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train.
Engineers have successfully pulled out the locomotive and one of the affected coaches.
In a statement on Thursday, August 28, the corporation revealed that its Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, personally returned to the accident site to oversee the ongoing work being carried out by NRC engineers.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, involved a passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna.
Several coaches went off the track, causing panic among passengers but prompting a swift emergency response.

Opeifa hailed the engineers for their professionalism and quick intervention, stressing the importance of restoring services promptly.
“I commend the recovery team for their dedication and technical expertise. Their efforts are vital to ensuring we get services back on track as soon as possible,” he said.
He further praised security personnel for maintaining calm and order at the site, saying their involvement allowed recovery activities to progress without obstruction.
The NRC boss also appreciated the media for its coverage, describing journalists as valuable partners in ensuring accurate information reached the public.
“The dissemination of credible and factual information is essential in helping Nigerians understand the true situation and appreciate the progress we’re making,” Opeifa added.
