The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that his life and those of senior management staff are under serious threat due to ongoing reforms in the oil and gas sector.
Ojulari, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu with a mandate to revive Nigeria’s moribund refineries, claimed that powerful interests opposed to change are plotting to oust him from office.
The NNPCL boss made the disclosure on Thursday while receiving a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its president, Festus Osifo, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
Despite the threats, Ojulari stressed his determination to ensure Nigeria’s refineries are restored to full operational capacity. He noted that the company is exploring the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) model as a framework to guide the rehabilitation process.

“I’m not hiding from anybody. I’m not a politician. I will have to learn a bit more about politics, but it’s a development plan for me, right? And I’m ready to learn,” he said.
Ojulari reaffirmed that the reforms were in line with President Tinubu’s directive to reposition the sector for stability and efficiency, adding that his leadership remains committed to delivering results despite mounting pressure.
