The Abia State Police Command has arrested a suspected car thief, identified as Emeka Chukwuma from Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Police operatives also recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number BBR667RM, believed to have been stolen, during the operation that led to his arrest.
In a late-night statement on Thursday night by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, the command disclosed that the vehicle was stolen in Akwa Ibom.
The statement read, “In furtherance of investigations into a case of a stolen vehicle reported in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 2022, but suspected to have been moved to Abia State, leveraging on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Scorpion Squad Abia State Police Command, on 22/08/2025, recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV with Registration Number BBR667RM and apprehended one Emeka Edwin Chukwuma, a native of Umuchu, Aguata LGA, Anambra State, in relation to the incident.

“The complainant has been contacted to aid in ascertaining the originality and ownership of the recovered vehicle.
“Meanwhile, further investigations are ongoing.”
