Police Arrest Six Wanted Gang Members, Recover Arms, Stolen Vehicle

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six suspected members of a notorious gang and recovered arms, ammunition, and an unregistered vehicle during a routine patrol.

The suspects are Yakubu Oke (48), Teslim Balogun (33), Emmanuel Osas (33), Joseph Abah (34), Idris Adewunmi (32), and Opeyemi Kolawole (28).

The Lagos Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement that the search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry believed to have been stolen.

Hundeyin stated that, during interrogation, the suspects were unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding their movements and identities, which raised suspicions, prompting the officers to search.

According to him, investigation revealed that the suspects are linked to a gang previously listed on the police watchlist for criminal activities across several locations within the Lagos metropolis.

The statement read, “Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended six suspected gang members and recovered arms, ammunition, and an unregistered vehicle suspected to be stolen during a routine patrol on May 29, 2025.

“The operation is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and enhance public safety.

“The suspects identified as Yakubu Oke, ’ aged 48, Teslim Balogun, ‘aged 33, Emmanuel Osas, ‘aged 33, Joseph Abah, ‘m’ aged 34, Idris Adewunmi, ‘m’ aged 32, and Opeyemi Kolawole, ‘m’ aged 28 were intercepted and questioned but failed to provide satisfactory information regarding their movements and identities, raising suspicion.

“A thorough search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry.

“The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and have provided useful information to help uncover additional leads and identify accomplices.

“Investigations are ongoing as the Command intensifies efforts to ensure that all criminal elements are brought to justice.

“Upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
