Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor popularly known as Phyna, has passed away.
Her family confirmed the news in a statement issued on Sunday through Eko Solicitors & Advocates. According to the release, Ruth died in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30 am,” the statement read.
The family further noted that they are currently in grief and appealed for privacy as they mourn.
“The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” it added.

Ruth’s death comes just weeks after a tragic road accident near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State. On Wednesday, August 13, she was struck by a truck reportedly linked to Dangote Group. The heavy-duty vehicle crushed her leg before it was halted by a bystander, leaving her critically injured.
She later underwent a leg amputation in a bid to save her life.
The accident occurred only six days after Ruth celebrated her graduation from Auchi Polytechnic.
Her sudden passing has plunged her family and fans of Phyna into mourning.
