The Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC) has reassured residents, particularly those in Sabo, Chikun Local Government Area, that the ongoing water shortage will soon be resolved.
The agency disclosed that the state government has begun replacing the old and faulty pumps at the Detroit water intake.
KADSWAC’s spokesman, Yakubu Danjuma, said most of the pumps currently in use had become obsolete, with only a few still functioning. He explained that the pumps, which had served for many years, now break down often and cannot adequately sustain water distribution in the affected communities.
According to him, “the corporation has already completed the design and procurement process for new pumps. We are replacing all the pumps, about six to eight in total because they are old and worn out.”
Danjuma added that the breakdown of one pump often forces another to take over, but with many of them already failing, water cannot be pumped effectively even though new pipes have been installed.

He revealed that funds had been released for the new pumps, which were already being transported to Nigeria. Once installed, he said, residents should expect better and more consistent water supply.
He urged residents in Chikun and nearby areas to remain patient, stressing that the government is committed to revitalising the state’s water sector.
He assured, “By God’s grace, the issue of water scarcity in Chikun and surrounding areas will soon be a thing of the past.”
Danjuma restated that the corporation is working tirelessly to restore normal supply and emphasized that the government remains committed to the people.
