Boko Haram Massacre: Ndume Condemns Killing of 63 Soldiers, Civilians in Borno

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has expressed deep concern over the recent wave of Boko Haram attacks in Borno State, describing the killings of soldiers, immigration officers, and civilians as tragic and unacceptable.

Last Friday, insurgents stormed Darajamal village in Bama Local Government Area, leaving five soldiers and 58 civilians dead.

Several women and girls were also abducted during the assault. In response, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by the Air Component, launched a counterattack that reportedly killed more than 30 insurgents.

Just a day earlier, in Monguno Local Government Area, two immigration officers lost their lives in a separate attack.

In a statement issued on Sunday, September 7, Ndume said he was “shocked by the renewed killings” and extended his condolences to the families of the victims, including security personnel who paid the ultimate price.

While commending troops for their sacrifices, he warned that the increasing attacks across Borno South, North, and Central remain alarming.

He urged the Federal Government to step up its response by deploying drones, attack helicopters, and modern weaponry to the North-East.

The senator also suggested the creation of armed community defence groups to support military operations, noting that the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and vigilantes currently lack the capacity to fully contain the insurgents.

Ndume further appealed to residents to work closely with security agencies by sharing intelligence that could help prevent future attacks.
