Ndume to Tinubu: Fix Nigeria or I Dump APC

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has warned that he may dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu fails to address Nigeria’s worsening problems and rescue his administration from what he described as poor governance.

Speaking on Arise News on Tuesday, June 24, Ndume expressed deep dissatisfaction with the direction of the country, saying his loyalty to the ruling party is not unconditional.

“If I decide to leave the APC, I will not hide it,” he declared. “I still believe President Tinubu can fix things. Failure to fix those things may cause me to leave the APC.”

Ndume, who served as Director-General of Rotimi Amaechi’s 2023 presidential campaign, warned that the party risks total collapse if it continues to attract more political defectors without direction.

“If Tinubu continues this way, it doesn’t matter if he loads more people or governors, you are just endangering the APC,” he said. “When you overload a ship, it might lead to the capsizing of the party.”

The Senator also lamented the lack of real change under Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that power brokers around the President are deceiving him and hurting his reputation.

Earlier this month, during an appearance on Channels TV, Ndume accused some of the President’s aides of misleading him about national issues.

He also claimed that the administration had been hijacked by what he called “kleptocrats” and “kakistocrats.”

While on Arise News, Ndume didn’t spare former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai either. He accused El-Rufai of betraying Amaechi after initially supporting him during the APC primaries.

“El-Rufai was supposed to be on our side but somehow, he moved over,” he said. “I think these are part of the things that are annoying or frustrating him.”

Ndume recalled how El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination was rejected despite prior support. “But sometimes, I’ll say, ‘okay o, you did that to us, it’s payback to yourself’.”

With growing internal criticism and threats of defection, Ndume’s comments add to the mounting pressure on President Tinubu to fix his house before it fractures further.
