Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Udodi Onwuzurike, has booked his place in the semifinals of the men’s 200m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Onwuzurike, who holds the title of Nigeria’s fastest man over the distance, clocked an impressive 20.27 seconds to secure progression in his heat.
The 21-year-old finished just behind American star Kenneth Bednarek, who stormed to victory in 19.98 seconds.
South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile also crossed the line in 20.27 seconds, matching Onwuzurike’s time, but the Nigerian edged through on placement to keep his medal hopes alive.

The result cements Onwuzurike’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s brightest sprint talents and keeps Nigeria’s hopes burning for a podium finish in Tokyo.
He will return to the track in the semifinal as he looks to continue his historic run on the global stage.
