Rivers Assembly to Reconvene After Emergency Rule Lifting

The Rivers State House of Assembly is set to reconvene on Thursday under the leadership of Speaker Martins Amaewhule, following the lifting of emergency rule by President Bola Tinubu.

The lawmakers will meet at the Conference Hall in the Assembly Quarters, Port Harcourt, which has served as their temporary chamber since suspected arsonists attacked and destroyed their official complex on Moscow Road.

President Tinubu, in a statement issued Wednesday, directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state legislature to return to normal legislative and executive activities, formally ending the suspension imposed on March 18.

Thursday’s sitting marks the first plenary session since the restrictions were lifted, signaling a new phase in the state’s governance after months of disruption.
