Two Northern organisations have faulted calls by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Amnesty International (AI) urging President Bola Tinubu to withdraw charges against activist Omoyele Sowore, describing the demands as interference in judicial processes.
In separate statements on Monday, the Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) and the Northern Minorities Back Tinubu Group maintained that Sowore’s case should be left for the courts to decide.
NEYGA’s spokesman, Mallam Ibrahim Dan-Musa, said the rule of law must be upheld and that legal proceedings should not be truncated by executive directives.
“Calls for executive intervention in ongoing cases could undermine the independence of judicial processes,” Dan-Musa said, insisting Sowore should pursue his legal options within the courts.

Similarly, Comrade Jacob Edi, speaking for the Northern Minorities Back Tinubu Group, stressed that judicial institutions remain the best platforms to determine the legality of Sowore’s actions. He added that the outcome of the case could enrich Nigeria’s legal precedents and jurisprudence.
Both groups urged Nigerians to respect the independence of the judiciary and allow courts and security agencies to carry out their constitutional roles without external interference.
