The bodies of two children belonging to a vocal supporter of Governor Babagana Zulum were found dead, days after the father publicly criticised alleged “cabals” and some politicians in the state.
The victims, a 14-year-old girl and a 28-month-old boy, were the children of Zannah Jaridama Bornoye, who, in a viral video, had accused certain figures close to the governor of hypocrisy, self-enrichment, and sabotage of the administration’s agenda.
In the posts, Jaridama complained that some supposed loyalists attend public functions and take credit but fail to defend or support the governor in meaningful ways.
According to a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Thursday, Jaridama had raised the alarm after his children went missing while playing outside their home and appealed on Facebook for prayers and help, even offering to surrender himself in exchange for their safety.
His appeals went unanswered, and the children’s bodies were discovered early Thursday in the boot of his vehicle.
The discovery has provoked widespread outrage in Maiduguri, with residents demanding a thorough and speedy investigation and justice for the victims.
Community members expressed fear and anger that the killings followed Jaridama’s recent public criticisms, though no official link has been established.
The state police have not issued any statement to confirm responsibility for the deaths.

The police and other security agencies were reported to be on the scene, and an investigation is underway.
Governor Zulum’s office has not issued an immediate comment at the time of filing this report.
Efforts by First Daily correspondent to reach the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Daso, proved abortive as calls were not returned.
The deaths come amid heightened sensitivities in the region, where political disputes and security challenges often inflame public concern.
Residents urged security agencies to expedite forensic work and arrests so that those responsible are brought to account and to reassure the public.
