China has inaugurated the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou Province, a record-breaking structure that now holds the title of the world’s tallest bridge.
The bridge, which officially opened to traffic on Sunday, September 28, 2025, is a suspension bridge spanning the Huajiang Canyon along the Liuzhi–Anlong Expressway.
Standing 625 meters above the Beipan River, it surpasses all existing bridges worldwide in terms of vertical clearance.
The structure measures 2,890 meters in total length, with a main span of 1,420 meters, making it one of the longest suspension bridges ever built.

Its completion is expected to significantly boost connectivity in the mountainous region, reducing the travel time across the canyon from about two hours to just a few minutes.
Chinese officials said the project demonstrates the country’s growing capacity in large-scale infrastructure development while opening up new economic opportunities for Guizhou and neighboring provinces.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is the latest in a series of engineering achievements in China, which already hosts several of the world’s highest and longest bridges.
