The Nigerian Army has announced a series of major operational breakthroughs nationwide, resulting in the arrest of a high-value terror suspect, the neutralisation of several insurgents, the recovery of weapons, and the surrender of terrorists.
This was contained in a statement, shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Friday.
In a coordinated operation conducted on October 7, 2025, troops of 2 Brigade, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) from the Port Harcourt Command, raided a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The operation led to the arrest of Emmanuel Akpan, a notorious kidnap kingpin known for terrorising commuters along the Oron–Ibaka axis. The suspect is currently in DSS custody for further investigation.
Similarly, on October 8, 2025, troops of 196 Amphibious Battalion in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, apprehended a suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorist attempting to infiltrate the town.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect acted as a logistics and intelligence courier for terrorist cells in Chad and the Niger Republic, disguised as a repentant fighter. He has been handed over to the 403 Amphibious Brigade for further investigation.
In another significant operation, troops of 4 Demonstration Battalion intercepted two suspects during a snap checkpoint along the Lere–Saminaka–Kaduna Road in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The soldiers recovered 1,307 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four mobile phones, and ₦27,000 in cash. Initial investigations indicated that the ammunition was being smuggled from Barakin Ladi in Plateau State to Zamfara State.
Meanwhile, three ISWAP/JAS terrorists, including a female, voluntarily surrendered to troops of 68 Battalion in Bosso, Niger State, citing intense military pressure and deteriorating conditions in their camps around the Tumbun Marcobina axis.
The individuals, identified as natives of Konduga and Jabilam, are currently undergoing profiling and debriefing.
In a separate operation, troops of 222 Battalion at Bazamri Village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State engaged insurgents in a gun battle, forcing them to flee.
