Oscar-Winning Actress Diane Keaton Dies at 79 in California

Oscar-winning Hollywood icon Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) confirmed on Saturday, October 11.

According to reports, emergency responders arrived at Keaton’s Los Angeles residence around 8:08 a.m. local time, where they attended to a 79-year-old woman later identified as the acclaimed actress. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Keaton, celebrated for her wit, talent, and trailblazing career, rose to fame in the 1970s for her performances in “The Godfather” films and her acclaimed collaborations with director Woody Allen. Her portrayal in “Annie Hall” (1977) earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, solidifying her place among Hollywood’s elite.

Over her decades-long career, Keaton starred in numerous beloved films, including “The First Wives Club,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” and the “Book Club” franchise, as well as frequent collaborations with director Nancy Meyers.

In 2021, Keaton appeared in Justin Bieber’s music video “Ghost,” endearing herself to a new generation of fans. Beyond acting, she was a passionate advocate for creative expression and a beloved presence on social media, where she often shared reflections on life, art, and friendship.

Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, she was the eldest of four children. Her father worked as a civil engineer, while her mother was a homemaker who encouraged her daughter’s artistic pursuits. Keaton adopted her mother’s maiden name for professional use, as another actress named Diane Hall was already registered with the Actors’ Equity Association.

Keaton was known for her individuality and for defying Hollywood’s conventions. She never married but was a devoted mother to two adopted children, Dexter and Duke, whom she often credited as her greatest joys.
