The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of full enforcement action against all land reclamation projects operating without the required Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Approval and Drainage Clearance across the state.
According to a statement posted on Wednesday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement exercise will include the removal of all illegal reclamation structures and fillings, as well as the seizure of reclamation equipment and materials found on prohibited sites.
Wahab noted that the state will also prosecute offenders in line with existing Environmental and Urban Development Laws, stressing that the action is aimed at protecting the environment, preventing flooding, and ensuring public safety.
“These actions are necessary to safeguard the environment and prevent avoidable disasters,” Wahab stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining ecological balance and sustainable urban development.

The commissioner urged residents, developers, and investors to comply with statutory regulations and obtain the appropriate EIA and Drainage Clearance Certificates before embarking on any reclamation or construction project within the state.
This move comes as part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to curb environmental infractions and enhance urban resilience against the growing threats of climate change and unregulated land development.
