Reps Demand Swift Security Boost in Sokoto After Deadly Bandit Raids

The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to reinforce security measures in Kebe and Tambuwal Local Government Areas of Sokoto State after repeated bandit attacks that have killed many and displaced residents.

The call came after a motion of urgent national importance raised by Hon. Abdushama Dasuki, who represents Kebe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, during Tuesday’s plenary, on the 14th of October, 2025.

In his presentation, Dasuki voiced concern about the persistent insecurity in his constituency, saying communities in both LGAs have come under frequent attacks.

He referred to several incidents in August where bandits stormed villages such as Toku, Sengi, and Ongushi in Kebe LGA, killing residents, abducting many, and stealing livestock. He added that similar assaults in Jabu Kagara and nearby communities in Tambuwal LGA had displaced hundreds of residents.

Dasuki explained that the violence had driven people from their homes, halted schooling, and deepened poverty as farmers abandoned their fields out of fear.

He further observed that rising diplomatic strain between Nigeria and Niger Republic had left border areas in Sokoto exposed to cross-border banditry and arms trafficking.

The lawmaker appealed to security agencies to embrace a more coordinated and intelligence-led strategy to safeguard lives and property in rural and border areas.

After adopting the motion, the House instructed the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies to intensify operations in the affected communities.

It also mandated its Committees on Defence, National Security and Intelligence, and Police Affairs to work with the agencies for prompt action and present a report within two weeks.
