No Tinubu Cap, No Entry: Okpebholo Sets Strict Rule for Commissioners

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has directed all newly appointed commissioners to wear the ‘Asiwaju cap’, a signature hat associated with President Tinubu during Executive Council (EXCO) meetings.

The governor warned that any commissioner who fails to comply would be barred from participating in the meetings.

Governor Okpebholo made the directive on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 new commissioners and members of state boards in Benin City.

He attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the recent Edo governorship election to President Tinubu’s support, saying the outcome would not have been possible without a “responsible president.”

He described the ‘Asiwaju cap’ as a symbol of loyalty to the president and said wearing it is now mandatory for active participation in EXCO meetings.

The governor also urged commissioners to maintain a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and to prioritize governance that delivers tangible results for Edo residents.

The directive has generated debate on social media, with some praising the governor for promoting party loyalty, while others questioned whether symbolic gestures should take precedence over substantive governance.
