Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in 19 new commissioners, along with several board chairmen and members, charging them to serve with integrity and stay true to the people’s interests.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, October 14, at the Government House in Benin City, drew an impressive list of dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikilor, Chief of Staff Alhaji Gani Audu, and other senior officials.
Speaking during the event, Governor Okpebholo reminded the appointees that their selection was not political compensation but a call to service.
“Your nominations did not come as a reward or patronage, but as a call to serve the people of Edo State. This administration came into office on the promise of practical governance to touch the lives of our people directly,” he said.
He made it clear that his administration’s focus would remain on tangible development, not empty promises.
“Our focus is not on propaganda, but on service delivery and tangible results that can be felt in every community across our state,” he added.
Okpebholo congratulated the appointees but warned them to resist corruption and personal gain.

“While I congratulate you on your deserved elevation, I must warn that your appointment is not for personal enrichment.
“You are not here for money-making, but for service, for sacrifice, and for a better life for Edo people. This administration has zero tolerance for corruption,” he stated.
The governor urged them to work with discipline, teamwork, and loyalty, saying his vision was to rebuild and reposition Edo State for sustainable growth.
“Together, let us prove that government can work for the people. Let us write a new chapter where service comes before self,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the new commissioners, Ebea Odianonsen thanked the governor for his trust and pledged their collective commitment to his developmental agenda.
“We thank the governor for finding us worthy to serve. We pledge to support your developmental agenda and ensure that all your promises to the people of Edo State and to President Bola Tinubu are fully realised,” he said.
Odianonsen also assured that the new appointees would work as a team to help the governor deliver on his promises of effective governance and stability.
With this latest batch, the number of commissioners in the state now stands at 29.
