The People’s Republic of China has commended Nigerian security agencies for the successful rescue of four of its citizens kidnapped in Kwara State.
The Chinese government’s commendation was conveyed in a statement on Sunday by its Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and delivered during a formal handover ceremony held at the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility in Abuja.
The ambassador, represented by the Consul of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Jun, praised the DSS, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force for their swift and intelligence-led operation, which led to the safe recovery of the victims.
According to the statement, the rescued Chinese nationals — identified as Dansu Zhou, Zhou Hai, Zhou Jia Jun, and Fan Xiu Guo — were freed on Saturday after being abducted by a gang of armed men on their way to a mining site at Saminaka village, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Wang Jun also commended the DSS for providing what he described as “outstanding medical care” to the rescued miners at its facility in Abuja. He said the professionalism and medical support extended to the victims contributed significantly to their quick recovery.
“Following their rescue, DSS operatives immediately took our citizens to their facility for medical evaluation, where they were thoroughly examined by top professionals before being moved to our embassy in Abuja,” he said.

The statement noted that the Chinese government was impressed by the capacity and commitment demonstrated by Nigeria’s security agencies, particularly the DSS, in protecting lives and property.
It further highlighted recent operations by the DSS that have disrupted criminal syndicates, intercepted arms and ammunition, and dismantled illegal networks across several states.
The statement also recalled a recent major operation in Asaba, Delta State, during which the DSS intercepted seven General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), ammunition, and other weapons — an achievement stakeholders have described as a strong indication of the Service’s commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring peace nationwide.
