The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a warning to the public about one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed officer reportedly using the agency’s name to carry out fraudulent acts.
In a statement released on Monday, the 13th of October, 2025, the DSS explained that Godwin was dismissed from the Service but continues to impersonate a serving officer while engaging in various scams.
According to the Service, the ex-officer has allegedly been exploiting unsuspecting individuals by extorting money under false pretences, claiming affiliation with the DSS.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff. He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement read.

The DSS called on Nigerians to steer clear of any dealings with Godwin or anyone associated with him. It also encouraged the public to forward all legitimate requests, enquiries, or complaints through its official channels, the phone line 09088373515 and the agency’s official email address.
The statement reaffirmed the DSS’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, adding that anyone caught impersonating or attempting to damage its reputation will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
