Kanu’s Lawyer Cries Out from Kuje Prison: ‘Magistrate Refused to Hear Us’

Nnamdi Kanu’s counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, has accused the presiding magistrate in his case of refusing to hear the defence before ordering their detention in Kuje Prison.

In a post shared on X on Tuesday, the 21st of October, 2025, Ejimakor confirmed that he was in good health but still in custody. He stated that the court rejected every attempt by the defence to make submissions and proceeded to order their remand until Friday.

“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje Prison. The magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way. For context: keep in mind that they bypassed several magistrate courts in town and headed to this one in Kuje,” Ejimakor wrote.

The Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja had earlier directed that Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and ten others be held in custody after their arraignment by the Nigeria Police.

They face charges bordering on inciting disturbance and public disorder linked to the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest staged in Abuja on Monday.

Documents posted on X by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, a former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, revealed that the defendants were accused of blocking roads, restricting movement, and chanting war songs while calling for Kanu’s release.

Before their arraignment, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, had announced on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Monday, the 20th of October, that those detained during the protest would appear in court on Tuesday after investigations.
