Nigeria’s Super Falcons made a strong statement in their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying campaign with a convincing 2–0 victory over Benin on Friday.
The ten-time African champions dominated proceedings from the onset, and their pressure paid off in the 24th minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo found the back of the net to give Nigeria the lead.
Esther Okoronkwo doubled the advantage in stoppage time of the first half (45+2’), calmly slotting home to make it 2–0 before the break.

The second half saw the Super Falcons maintain control, keeping their defensive shape intact while creating several chances to extend the lead, though none were converted.
With the result, Nigeria head into the return leg in Abuja with a comfortable advantage as they aim to seal qualification for the 2026 WAFCON.
