Resist Pressure from Politicians, APC Chieftain Warns INEC Chair Amupitan

As Nigeria braces for crucial elections, Osun APC stalwart Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has thrown a sharp spotlight on the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, urging him to rise above political pressure and prove that Nigeria’s votes can truly count.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday, October 26, Oyintiloye warned that Amupitan’s era at the helm of the electoral body would define whether Nigerians could still believe in democracy.

He advised the new INEC chief to be courageous, impartial, and immune to the lure and intimidation of politicians desperate to manipulate the process.

“All eyes are on the new INEC boss,” Oyintiloye said. “He must stay focused and resist all forms of pressure that could undermine the integrity of the commission.”

He continued, “Those who lost elections will continue to undermine the efforts of the commission in ensuring credible elections in the country for their own personal gain, but the INEC boss must fear no one. He must apply the rules without favour.”

The former Osun lawmaker praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Amupitan, describing the decision as a bold one that could mark a new chapter in Nigeria’s electoral history if handled well.

He noted that the upcoming Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun governorship elections would serve as a litmus test for Amupitan’s resolve to deliver credible polls.
