FG Enlists ICPC to Track Basic Healthcare Fund Utilisation

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has engaged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to monitor and track the utilisation of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund across the country.

The ministry said the collaboration, announced on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the management of funds meant for primary healthcare delivery.

According to the statement, the initiative followed concerns about irregularities in the disbursement and utilisation of the fund in some states, prompting the ministry to seek stronger oversight from the ICPC.

Under the arrangement, the anti-corruption commission will work with relevant departments of the health ministry and state implementing agencies to review expenditure records, track payments, and ensure that resources are reaching the targeted health facilities and communities.

The ministry explained that the partnership reflects government’s renewed commitment to safeguard public funds and strengthen the effectiveness of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

It added that the monitoring framework will help prevent diversion, improve accountability, and guarantee better service delivery at the grassroots level.

Established under the National Health Act, the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund is drawn from at least one per cent of the Consolidated Revenue Fund to support essential health services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Officials said the Federal Ministry of Health will continue to partner with relevant agencies and development stakeholders to ensure efficient fund utilisation and sustain progress toward universal health coverage in Nigeria.
