In a continued show of commitment to education and healthcare, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has made generous donations totaling N15 million to two prominent institutions in Bauchi State — Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School.
During a visit to Bauchi on Friday, Obi presented N10 million to the nursing college and N5 million to the Quranic school, underscoring his ongoing investment in sectors he calls “the foundation of national development.”
Addressing students and faculty at the Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Obi emphasized the critical role nurses play in the country’s health system.
“The nurse is everything — they know the patient, own the patient, and ensure care is consistent. Without nurses, the healthcare system collapses,” Obi said, receiving loud applause from the audience.
The former Anambra State governor further stated that he has made it a personal mission to support healthcare training institutions across the country, noting that he visits and assists about 70 nursing schools every year.

He also took time to recognize the Quranic school’s contribution to moral and religious education, noting that institutions that shape minds and values are essential to Nigeria’s future.
In separate remarks, the proprietors of both institutions — Aminu Danmaliki of the nursing college and Alhaji Usman Abubakar of the Quranic school — expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, assuring that the funds would be used transparently to improve facilities and expand access for students.
The donation comes amid rising concerns about underfunded educational and healthcare institutions in Northern Nigeria, making Obi’s intervention timely and symbolic.
As public figures and philanthropists continue to step in where government efforts fall short, Obi’s approach reinforces his post-election message: nation-building is a shared responsibility.
