Charly Boy Urges President Tinubu to Act Amid National Hardship

Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has penned an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing frustration over the state of the nation and urging the government to take immediate action to address the growing hardship faced by Nigerians.

In the strongly worded message shared via his official X account on Friday, Charly Boy appealed to the President, whom he addressed as Jagaban, to forgive his past criticisms, explaining that his comments stemmed from frustration and a deep concern for the country’s future.

He lamented the worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and widespread despair across Nigeria, noting that citizens have protested, pleaded, and cried for decades with little change. According to him, the government continues to prioritize its comfort over the suffering of the people.

“Our voices don disappear inside government office like smoke,” he wrote, adding that hunger, insecurity, and poverty have become daily realities for Nigerians across all regions. “North dey cry, South dey hungry, East and West no better pass. Everywhere dey choke,” he stated.

Charly Boy further referenced recent international attention drawn to Nigeria following a tweet by a foreign leader, questioning why it takes external pressure before Nigerian leaders respond to citizens’ pain.

The activist called on President Tinubu to act decisively, stressing that leadership must prioritize the protection of lives and the restoration of citizens’ dignity. “Mr President, the thing don pass shame, e don turn tragedy. Water don pass Garri. Nigeria don sawa,” he said, urging immediate intervention rather than waiting for another crisis to trend online.

He concluded by demanding purposeful leadership and collective awakening among Nigerians, emphasizing that the time for action is now.

As of press time, the Presidency had yet to issue a response to Charly Boy’s open letter.
