A high-level security summit aimed at developing sustainable strategies to address the worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria is scheduled to take place in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The summit, which will be chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, is expected to draw northern governors, top security experts, and key stakeholders from across the region.
Also expected at the event is former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd), who will co-chair the session alongside other prominent figures in governance, media, and national security.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Alhaji Yelwa, Chairman of the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, said the summit is designed as a “strategic intervention” to confront the deepening insecurity threatening peace, development, and stability across northern Nigeria.
“The summit seeks to provide a robust platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective action among stakeholders committed to restoring peace and strengthening national cohesion,” Yelwa stated.
He noted that despite several past interventions, insecurity continues to devastate lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure in the North, adding that the upcoming forum aims to move beyond talk to action-driven solutions.
According to Yelwa, the 2025 Broadcast Media Security Summit — jointly organized by the forum and the Kebbi State Government — will explore how effective communication and public trust can support counterterrorism efforts and strengthen ongoing security reforms.

“The summit will bring together broadcasters, policymakers, security professionals, and development partners to develop practical communication strategies capable of countering violent extremism and improving citizens’ confidence in government-led security operations,” he said.
The event comes amid increasing concerns over banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency that have destabilized several northern states in recent years.
Organizers say the outcome of the summit will form the basis for a coordinated regional framework to enhance security cooperation and peacebuilding efforts across the North.
