Afrobeat superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has made history by becoming the first Nigerian artist to earn five career Grammy nominations in the album categories.
The self-acclaimed African Giant secured his latest nomination for No Sign of Weakness (2025), which was shortlisted for Best Global Music Album at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards.
He will compete in the category alongside Sounds of Kumbha by Siddhant Bhatia, Éclairer le Monde (Light the World) by Youssou N’Dour, Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live) by Shakti, Chapter III: We Return to Light by Anoushka Shankar featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, and Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo by Brazilian icons Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.
Burna Boy’s latest recognition brings his total Grammy nominations to 13, with a previous win for Twice As Tall at the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021. His other nominated albums include African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022), and I Told Them (2023).
In addition to the album nod, Burna also received a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for his hit single Love. Other nominees in the category include Davido for With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr alongside Wizkid for Gimme Dat, Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin with Hope & Love, and South Africa’s Tyla with Push 2 Start.

Burna Boy previously earned an album nomination through his feature on Justin Bieber’s Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe), which was nominated in 2022.
The nominations further highlight the growing global dominance of African music, with Nigerian artists once again leading the continent’s representation at the Grammys.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
