The Federal Government’s continuing struggle to contain the escalating security situation across Nigeria has provoked widespread calls for President Bola Tinubu to immediately step down from office.
A recent wave of violence involving terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements has been reported, characterized by persistent killings and mass abductions of citizens across numerous states, including Kebbi, Kwara, and Zamfara.
This surge in violence has elicited strong condemnations from both domestic and international observers, with many arguing that the President should resign and allow a more capable individual to lead the country.
Prominent voices, particularly from social commentators and the entertainment industry, have been vocal in demanding the President’s resignation.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong made a definitive public statement on X, urging the president to take responsibility: “President Tinubu should tender his resignation and apologize to the country.” Effiong further criticized the President’s leadership, posting, “As Commander-in-Chief, he is weak, clueless, and grossly incompetent. The killings and bloodbath can’t continue.” The post concluded with a sharp demand: “Tinubu resign now.”

Similarly, popular Nigerian actor and comedian Mr Macaroni took to his official X handle to express his frustration, asserting that the President’s departure would be expected in a functional democracy. He noted, “Why should any part of this country be under terrorist occupation? In any civilized country, Tinubu should resign!”
Adding to the chorus of demands, social media commentator Isaac Fayose shared a viral video clip imploring the President to vacate his position. Fayose stated, “Dear President Tinubu, I think it is time to resign. You are not capable of ruling this country.” He then challenged the President’s comfort level amidst the national crisis, asking, “How do you feel comfortable being president over a failed nation where Nigerians are kidnapped daily and genocide is happening everywhere?”
Nigerian rapper and songwriter Falz also weighed in on X, directly questioning the President’s commitment to public safety. He posted a stark message: “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”
