Bayern Munich forward Luis Díaz has received a three-match Champions League suspension following the red card issued for his dangerous challenge on Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi earlier this month.
UEFA said the sanction was for “serious rough play,” after video review upgraded the initial yellow card to a straight red.
The incident occurred on November 4, shortly before halftime in Bayern’s 2–1 victory in Paris.
PSG confirmed that Hakimi suffered a severe ankle sprain from the tackle.
The injury has kept him out of action and left him reliant on a mobility scooter when he attended the African Footballer of the Year award ceremony.
The suspension rules Díaz out of Bayern’s upcoming Champions League fixtures:

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany told reporters he had expected a one-match ban and expressed surprise at the severity of the ruling.
Díaz has since wished Hakimi a quick recovery.
The decision removes one of Bayern’s most effective attacking players at a critical stage of the group campaign and places added pressure on the squad as they manage injuries and rotation demands.
