Renowned Tijjaniyyah Leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Dies at 98

Nigeria’s Islamic community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the revered leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order and one of the nation’s most influential Islamic scholars.

Family sources confirmed that the prominent cleric passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements are underway, with the schedule for prayers expected to be announced by the family and the Tijjaniyyah leadership in the coming hours.

Born around 1927 in Gombe, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi dedicated more than 70 years of his life to Islamic scholarship, particularly Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir).

His teachings and spiritual leadership earned him a massive following across Nigeria and West Africa. He was widely regarded as the Khalifah of the Tijjaniyyah Ibrahimiyyah movement in Nigeria and also served as the deputy chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), a testament to his respected place in national Islamic affairs.

Sheikh Bauchi leaves behind an extensive legacy of religious scholarship, as well as dozens of children, students, and countless followers who looked to him for spiritual guidance.

His passing marks the end of an era for the Tijjaniyyah community and the wider Muslim ummah in Nigeria.
