Gunmen have abducted at least 10 people in a fresh wave of attacks on Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, deepening concerns over the relentless violence plaguing rural communities in the region.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun. He told Channels TV that security operatives had been deployed in an ongoing effort to rescue the victims.
“On November 26, 2025, at about 8 pm, a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims,” Abiodun said.
But the attacks did not end there. Earlier the same day, the Kakuru community in Erena Ward came under assault. Residents said bandits brutalised a blind man, cutting off his right hand after stealing his mobile phone. The victim is currently receiving emergency care at a patent medicine shop in Kuduru.

In another grim development, residents of the Palaita community reported the abduction of up to 24 people—including pregnant women—after armed men raided a rice farm in the area. The scale and frequency of the attacks have heightened fear among locals who say they feel increasingly unprotected.
These incidents come just days after one of the most devastating school kidnappings in recent years, when over 300 students and 12 teachers were taken from St. Mary’s Catholic School in the Papiri community of Agwara Local Government Area.
As communities reel from the unending assaults, calls continue to grow for enhanced security presence and swift government action to curb the escalating violence threatening lives, livelihoods, and food production across Niger State.
