Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a temporary visa-free entry policy for Chinese citizens, effective December 1, 2025.
The measure allows Chinese nationals to visit Russia for tourism, business, private visits, cultural exchanges, and short-term transit through designated air and land border points.
The waiver is valid until September 14, 2026. Visitors may stay for up to 30 days within any 180-day period. Work, extended residence, and long-term stays remain prohibited.
The arrangement mirrors a similar Chinese visa waiver for Russian citizens introduced in September 2025, allowing Russians to enter China for up to 30 days for tourism, business, or cultural visits.
Officials describe the reciprocal move as part of a “comprehensive strategic partnership” aimed at deepening people-to-people ties, trade, and cultural exchange.

Analysts note the timing is significant for Russia, as restrictions on Western travel and economic sanctions have limited tourism and investment.

The initiative is expected to boost tourism in major Russian cities, promote business collaboration, and facilitate cultural and academic exchanges, underscoring the growing geopolitical alignment between Moscow and Beijing.
