Peter Obi Pays Tribute to Segun Awolowo, Hails His Enduring Legacy

Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Barrister Segun Awolowo, describing him as a selfless patriot whose life was defined by humility, service and unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s progress.

Obi was among the dignitaries who gathered in Lagos on Monday, December 1, for a Night of Tributes in honour of the former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council. He said the outpouring of testimonies about Awolowo’s character—his kindness, integrity and compassion—reflected the impact he had on countless lives across the country.

In a message shared on his X account on Wednesday, Obi noted that Awolowo was more than a public servant; he was “a bridge builder” whose quiet strength and commitment to nation-building set him apart.

“My heart goes out to his wife, children, and the entire Awolowo family,” Obi wrote. “I pray that God grants them the courage to bear this painful void and the comfort that comes from knowing he lived honourably, served faithfully, and left behind a legacy that will stand the test of time.”

The Night of Tributes drew political leaders, associates and admirers who celebrated the life and legacy of a man widely respected for his integrity and contributions to national development.
