A special enforcement squad from the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit has arrived in Anambra State to ensure full compliance with the nationwide directive ordering the withdrawal of police officers from VIP escort and guard duties.
The development was confirmed on Monday by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who said the deployment marks a significant step in the ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening core policing functions across the country.
According to Orutugu, the move aligns with the IGP’s commitment to improving discipline, professionalism, and optimal utilisation of police manpower.
He noted that the withdrawal of officers from private protection roles would help bolster public safety efforts, improve response times, and make more personnel available for critical security assignments within the state.
In a statement issued by the command, the CP said, “The Anambra State Police Command today, December 8, 2025, formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit deployed to ensure full implementation of the directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.

“We reaffirm our commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide.”
He added that all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Unit heads have been instructed to fully support the monitoring team to ensure a smooth and transparent enforcement process.
The command also appealed to individuals, organisations, and VIPs affected by the directive to comply without resistance, stressing that the initiative is part of a broader national security reform aimed at restructuring police operations and improving service delivery.
