A member of the House of Representatives, Mansur Musa, on Tuesday formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Musa, who represents Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency of Kebbi State, had his defection confirmed after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read his letter to members during plenary.
In the letter, Musa said he was leaving the PDP due to what he described as “deep-seated internal fractures, persistent conflicts and unresolved crises” that had weakened the opposition party.
“In recent months, the PDP has been overwhelmed by… crises that have eroded unity, weakened organisational discipline and made it impossible for the party to provide credible leadership,” he wrote.
He added that the internal divisions had created an atmosphere incompatible with the expectations of his constituents.
Musa said his decision followed “extensive consultations” with community leaders, political stakeholders and constituents, coupled with “prayerful reflection.”
“Remaining within a platform engulfed in such an unending crisis will compromise the effective representation that Almighty God has entrusted,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that the APC offered a more stable and disciplined structure better suited to delivering development to his constituency.

“My defection is therefore an act of responsibility — rooted in principle, standing by faith and anchored by the overriding need to serve my people,” he said.
Musa urged the House to update its records to reflect his new party affiliation and prayed for divine guidance in national service.
He was subsequently welcomed into the ruling party by APC lawmakers and the House leadership.
His exit adds to a wave of recent defections from the PDP amid internal tensions and competing factions within the party.
