On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Nigerian Senate summoned Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and leading industry stakeholders to explain the recent surge in domestic airline ticket prices.
The summons followed a motion by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, who raised concerns that the rising fares are making air travel unaffordable for many Nigerians and could disrupt travel plans during the festive season.
Senators highlighted that one-way tickets on key routes, such as Abuja–Lagos, now cost between ₦400,000 and ₦600,000.

Some lawmakers described the increase as “excessive,” with one noting it represents a “400 percent jump” compared to previous rates.
The Senate directed that Keyamo and other aviation officials appear at a special session to clarify the reasons behind the price hike and propose measures to ease the burden on travellers ahead of the holiday period.
