Katung Rolls Out Lifeline for Southern Kaduna — IDPs, Rural Hospitals Get Major Relief Boost

Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has provided essential relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs) across communities affected by recurring terror attacks in Southern Kaduna.

During the distribution exercise held on Thursday, the Senator’s Chief of Staff, Aku Joshua-Shai, said the intervention was part of ongoing efforts to ease the hardship of families displaced by violence and to strengthen basic healthcare delivery in rural areas.

“This initiative by Senator Katung is aimed at cushioning the effects of terrorism on affected families and communities. Many households have lost everything, and this intervention is to let them know they are not alone,” Shai said.

As part of the outreach, Katung also directed the supply of mattresses, mosquito nets and blankets to selected primary healthcare centres in the region.

In a separate message, the lawmaker reiterated the need for compassion, unity and sustained community support as Southern Kaduna continues to grapple with insecurity.

“Our people have suffered unimaginable losses. It is our duty to stand with them, support them, and work tirelessly to restore peace and hope in Southern Kaduna. No community should be left behind in this recovery process,” he said.

Katung urged government agencies, civil society organisations and community leaders to intensify collaborative efforts to restore lasting peace, noting that stability remains critical for economic recovery and human development.

Party leaders from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kachia and Kauru LGAs—Engr. Sanusi Jibrin and Garba Stephen Dakut—were present at the distribution points and praised the gesture.

Jibrin described the assistance as timely and impactful, while Dakut commended the Senator’s multi-sectoral approach, especially his support for rural healthcare facilities.

Items distributed to displaced households included mattresses, cooking pots, stoves, towels, buckets, soap, detergents, mats, blankets and mosquito nets. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude and called for strengthened security to enable them return to their homes.

Health workers in the benefiting primary healthcare centres also lauded the donation, noting that the new mattresses and mosquito nets would enhance patient care and hygiene.

In recent months, Senator Katung has intensified peace-building engagements across Southern Kaduna, emphasising that humanitarian relief must go hand-in-hand with improved security operations and community dialogue.
