NAFDAC Shuts Down Illegal Herbal Factory in Kaduna

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an unapproved herbal medicine plant in Kaduna State, on Friday, the 29th of August, 2025.

The facility, identified as SHIFA’UNNUR, was discovered in Mararaba Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.

Speaking to journalists after the operation, the team leader, Shamsuddeen Mani, Principal Regulatory Officer at NAFDAC, said the premises were closed due to non-compliance with basic operational requirements.

He revealed that the producers had no registration documents, which contravenes existing laws on herbal and drug manufacturing.

According to Mani, the raid was triggered by actionable intelligence, which exposed the center’s involvement in the production of several unregistered herbal mixtures.

“We acted swiftly based on credible intelligence and cracked down on an illegal herbal medicine facility in Mararaba Jos.

It’s alarming that all the equipment used in the unhygienic and hidden setup were substandard. These products pose serious health risks as their safety, quality, and efficacy cannot be guaranteed,” he said.

Products valued at about N5 million were seized during the operation, Mani confirmed.

The seized items will be destroyed, while the facility remains under seal as investigations continue.

He further stressed that NAFDAC, as the body mandated to protect public health, would intensify efforts to track offenders and eliminate unsafe practices across the country.
