Oborevwori Signs N1.729TN 2026 Budget, Four Key Bills Into Law

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday gave formal assent to the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill, valued at N1.729 trillion, describing it as the “Budget of Accelerating the MORE Agenda.” He also signed three other key legislative acts passed by the Delta State House of Assembly.

The additional laws are the Delta State Social Investment Programme Law, Delta State Colleges of Education Law, 2025, and the Delta State Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Law, 2025.

At the signing ceremony, Governor Oborevwori described the 2026 budget as “not just a budget of figures, but a budget of vision, action, and expected deliverables for the next twelve months.” He assured citizens that his administration would “hit the ground running in 2026 to accelerate development across key sectors.”

The N1.729 trillion budget represents over a 70 percent increase compared to 2025, with 70 percent allocated to capital expenditure and 30 percent to recurrent spending, highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure and sustainable development.

Reflecting on 2025, the governor cited investments in infrastructure, security, fiscal discipline, and revenue generation that improved internally generated revenue without imposing additional burdens on citizens.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, stated that the bills were passed following rigorous legislative engagement, wide consultations, and thorough scrutiny. He added that the Social Investment Programme Law institutionalises social interventions, the Colleges of Education Law enhances teacher education, and the Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism Amendment Law updates legislation to tackle current security issues.

He emphasised that the assent reflects strong collaboration between the legislature and executive, aimed at promoting good governance and socio-economic development in the state.

Governor Oborevwori concluded by commending the Speaker, lawmakers, staff, stakeholders, and citizens for their contributions and extended festive greetings to all Deltans.
